Day 14 - Hello San Francisco!

Lauren and I woke up (relatively) early the morning of June 26th, packed up the trusty Subaru, and headed south for San Francisco.

We decided to stop for breakfast in Berkeley partly because it was on our way and partly because neither of us had been there before. Like most college towns there was a plethora of breakfast joints and coffee houses to choose from We picked Peoples Cafe, just a couple of blocks off campus, and had delicious breakfast sandwiches, good coffee, and some much needed time on the internet.

We didn't have to fight very much traffic getting into San Francisco (a nice reward for arriving mid-day, mid-week). Once in the city we headed straight to the home of our host for the next couple of nights, my good friend (and former roomie) from Chicago) Anna.

Anna had the day off and suggested the three of us take Maeby to the beach for a walk. If you know me at all, you'll know that if someone suggests doing anything that involves dogs my reply is a quick and enthusiastic YES PLEASE!

Maeby blends right in with the sand!
I knew that San Francisco was famous for it's distinct micro-climates but it still amazed me to travel from Anna's house in the hot and sunny Mission District to Fort Funston Beach just a few miles away to find dense fog and cool crisp air.

Anna, Lauren and I walked Maeby down to the beach, across a beautiful cliff-lined beach where hang gliders frequently play on the weekends, and around the bend. The beach was very well attended by dog walkers (some of whom were walking upwards of 20 dogs (sometimes half or more off leash!))

After the walk we relaxed a bit on Anna's beautiful patio and caught up over an adult beverage or two. Squirrelly tried to make friends with Maeby and ended up going on one fantastic little journey before returning to the safety of Lauren's possession.

Maeby's mom laid out the rules VERY CLEARLY. "Be nice, that means NO biting"
Maeby is an extremely well behaved bitch but apparently, the allure of Squirrelly overpowers even the best manners!

Maeby come back!
Poor Squirrelly!
You can always get something from a dog if you have something that the dog wants more and fortunately, a bone the size of Maeby's leg made her forget about her little friend real quick!
"Squirrelly who?"
Anna planned a wonderful dinner of salmon with asparagus and wasabi mashed potatoes. Once her fiancé Neil got home the grill was fired up and Anna got to work.

Absolutely delicious!
